We started BUWAMI Uganda Limited in 2012 when the former Internally Displaced People’s camps were dismantled, and people were returning home. The idea was to have people meet and work together to have them re-integrated to normal life they led before the LRA
insurgency and start to produce their own food and change their mindset from living on hand outs. The people had lost everything due to insecurity and were struggling with life. This was hurting although we could not help everybody. Such a big challenge needs collective efforts to change the dynamics and direction of the society. Our activities then were engaging in agribusiness specifically focusing on the primary production and marketing of cassava cuttings and fresh root supplies to schools and local markets. Our targets are: improved livelihoods, sustainable enterprises, value driven partnerships and safe and clean ecosystems

Meaning behind the name: BUWAMI is an acronym that stands for Bringing Unity with Aim and Mission for developing Uganda. BUWAMI Uganda is a social enterprise company, our main objective is to build capacity of the community to increase agricultural productivity and production to ensure increased food security, household income and health in line with government programme of
Socio-Economic Transformation.

Challenges Encountered in the Journey: The challenge we had all along had been funding. The funds were internally mobilized from our salaries and proceeds of the farming operations. Any investment to the organization will create more impact and contribute to socio-economic transformation of the community of over 105,996 people in Otuke and neighboring districts.
